Burke, VA is a Washington, DC suburb located in Fairfax County. Burke traces both its roots and its name to Silas Burke, a farmer, politician, and merchant, who lived in the 1800s. Silas built a house – which is still standing – on a hill above Pohick Creek. Eventually, Silas gave some of his land to a railway company, and Burke’s Station was born.

Today, Burke is the site of Burke Lake Park, an outdoor recreational facility that offers: camping, picnic areas, jogging, golf, boating, a carousel, and a miniature train. Burke is also home to the Fairfax County Public Library and a number of schools such as Lake Braddock Secondary School and West Springfield High School.
