Currently one of the United States’ most rapidly growing counties, Fauquier County was carved out of Prince William County in 1759. It is named after Virginia Lieutenant Governor Francis Fauquier, who reputedly won the land in a game of chance!

Later, a number of Civil War battles were fought in the county, including the First Battle of Rappahannock Station and the Battle of Kelly’s Ford.
A number of famous Americans have made Fauquier County their home over the years. Actor Robert Duvall has a residence in The Plains, and George B. Fitch – founder of the Jamaican bobsled team – was recently the mayor of Warrenton. Fauquier County continues to attract new residents of all walks of life thanks to its blend of natural beauty, plentiful entertainment, and historical significance.
