The community of Gainesville, VA is located in Prince William County and has been the site of significant residential and commercial development since 1994. It is now home to shopping centers, modern subdivisions, and bustling interchanges.
Gainesville traces its roots back to the mid-1700s when it was a place for stagecoach drivers to get fresh horses. In 1752, the site was visited by Thomas Jefferson who would go on to become the United States’ 3rd president, and it was at this point that it took on the name Gainesville. The area became an important port for the transportation of goods and remained such until the mid-1900s.
During the Civil War, many soldiers’ marches took them past Gainesville, and the First and Second Battles of Bull run were fought nearby.
In the mid-1990’s builders began constructing a development of townhouses in Gainesville, and the area continued to expand as the years went on. More and more homes were constructed, and businesses and retailers also flocked to the area.
